Leader: Dear Creator
of the Universe, let light be our song. Let it be sung loud for those whose
spirit is so sorrowful, they cannot sing.
ALL: Let injustice be unsettling to us.
Leader: Let our song
be quiet in respect for those held in bondage due to racism, classism, sexism,
heterosexism, ableism, and any other form of hatred or injustice. For we dare
not to romanticize their agony and want justice now!
ALL: Let injustice be unsettling to us.
Leader: Let our
hearts be still for those who know not the peace of stillness. For we could
never truly know the anguish of their pain.
ALL: Let injustice be unsettling to us.
Leader: Let our own
hands be unsettled for those in the grasp of abusive or neglectful hands and
for those who are denied civil rights. For we are the hands and feet of justice
when our limbs work to empower those who are marginalized—even if that means at
times, advocating for ourselves.
ALL: Let injustice be unsettling to us.
Leader: Let our
thoughts be on the worker who whose shifts never end yet wages never fully
provide. For he or she may never know vacation, or dignified treatment, despite
all their hard labor.
ALL: Let injustice be unsettling to us.
Leader: Let our tears
weep for those held in bondage—be it physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual
slavery.
ALL: Let injustice be unsettling to us.
Leader: And finally, let our education enable us to
distinguish among the policies, behaviors, and attitudes that exist to merely
be like rocking horses—moving, but making no progress. For we know that the
time for justice and equality is always right now.
ALL: Let injustice be unsettling to us.
We pray these things as believers of many faiths, yet
comrades fighting for one cause.
ALL: Let injustice be unsettling to us.
This is powerful! Wow
